At the Races with Saul Steinberg to open Jan. 18 at the National Museum of Racing

SARATOGA SPINGS, N.Y. — The National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame will open a new exhibition, At the Races with Saul Steinberg, in the Link Gallery on Jan. 18. Made possible by the generous donation of the artwork to the Museum’s permanent collection by the Saul Steinberg Foundation, the drawings featured in this exhibition span the period of 1955 to 1959. Three were published in his book The Labyrinth in 1960. One was later published in the 1963 Sports Illustrated article “Steinberg at the Races” that featured scenes at racetracks from Paris to Los Angeles.

Museum seeking donation of auction items for Feb. 4 fundraiser

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. — The National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame will play host to a special “Countdown to the Triple Crown” fundraising event on Saturday, Feb. 4. This new event, scheduled exactly three months prior to the 2023 Kentucky Derby, will feature hundreds of silent auction items and an online auction of unique items and experience packages to benefit the Museum. Guests can attend the event in person at the Museum from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. or bid on special packages online. The early-bird event at the Museum will feature beer, wine, soda, light refreshments, and entertainment by Rich Ortiz. Cost to attend the event is $10 for Museum members and $25 for non-members. Many of the auction items will be displayed throughout the Museum galleries during the event.

Broun, Morgan, Runyon selected to the Joe Hirsch Media Roll of Honor

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. — Heywood Hale Broun, Bernard Stanley “Bert” Morgan, and Damon Runyon have been selected to the National Museum of Racing’s Joe Hirsch Media Roll of Honor.

Michael Veitch book discussion and signing Dec. 10 at the National Museum of Racing

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. — Renowned author and racing historian Michael Veitch will discuss his new book Legacy of Excellence: Thoroughbred Racing in Saratoga Springs 1956 to 2008 at the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame on Saturday, Dec. 10 at noon. Veitch will bring to life the stories of the on-track excellence of Saratoga racing during this period and the politics involved in the New York Racing Association’s franchise oversight of the track. A book signing will follow the presentation. The event is free to attend and books will be available to purchase.

Photo Finish exhibition opens Nov. 2

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.  — The National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame’s fourth annual Photo Finish exhibition will open in the von Stade Gallery on Wednesday, Nov. 2. Photo Finish features selected amateur and professional photographs that document the entire racing experience, from the farm and the backstretch to the winner’s circle. Each image captures an element of the strength, beauty, and emotion of the sport of racing. Photographers from 17 states and Ireland are represented in the exhibit.

Jessica Cloer and Matt Reichel join National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame staff

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. — The National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame has named Jessica Cloer as Museum Curator and Matt Reichel as Museum Educator.
“Jessica and Matt are great additions to our team at the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame,” said Cate Masterson, the Museum’s Director. “Both are talented and proven professionals in their respective disciplines and will be tremendous assets to the Museum in their new positions.”

Breeders' Cup preview program Saturday, Oct. 29

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. — The National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame will host its Countdown to the Breeders’ Cup preview program Saturday, Oct. 29 at noon in the Hall of Fame. Racing experts Jeff Carle and Michael Veitch will provide analysis and predictions for each Breeders’ Cup race. The program is free to attend for Museum members and is included with paid admission for non-members.

Hall of fame induction ceremony Friday, Aug. 5 at Fasig-Tipton

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. — The National Museum of Racing will induct the 2022 Hall of Fame class on Friday at Fasig-Tipton at 10:30 a.m. Longtime racecaller Tom Durkin will serve as the master of ceremonies. The event is open to the public and free to attend. The ceremony will also be broadcast live on the Museum website at racingmuseum.org. The 2022 Hall of Fame class is comprised of racehorses Beholder (KY), Hillsdale (IN), Royal Heroine (IRE), and Tepin (KY); trainer Oscar White; and Pillars of the Turf James Cox Brady, Marshall Cassidy, and James Ben Ali Haggin.   

Two new exhibits opening July 14 at the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. — The National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame will open two new exhibitions to the public on July 14, coinciding with opening day of the Saratoga Race Course summer meeting. Betting on America: The Immigrant Experience and the Hall of Fame will debut in the McBean Gallery, while Jim Raftery: A Turfotos Retrospective (from the collection of Barbara D. Livingston) opens in the von Stade Gallery.

National Museum of Racing announces 2022 Hall of Fame class

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. — Eight new members have been elected to the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame. The class of 2022 is comprised of the racehorses Beholder (KY) and Tepin (KY) in the contemporary category, both chosen in their first year of eligibility; racehorses Hillsdale (IN) and Royal Heroine (IRE) and trainer Oscar White via the Historic Review Committee; and Pillars of the Turf selections James Cox Brady, Marshall Cassidy, and James Ben Ali Haggin.

The class of 2022 will be enshrined on Friday, Aug. 5, at the Fasig-Tipton sales pavilion in Saratoga Springs at 10:30 a.m. The ceremony will be broadcast live on the Museum website at www.racingmuseum.org. The event is open to the public and free to attend.
