Biography

Bred in Kentucky by Eugene Mori, Tosmah was a bay daughter by Hall of Famer Tim Tam out of the Cosmic Bomb mare Cosmah. A champion as a juvenile and sophomore, Tosmah also had success as an older mare, defeating the great filly Affectionately in 1965 and beating Kentucky Derby winner Lucky Debonair in 1966.

As a 2-year-old in 1963, Tosmah won seven of her eight starts, including the Frizette Stakes, Mermaid Stakes, and a division of the Astarita Stakes. She was named champion by Daily Racing Form and Turf and Sport Digest, while the Thoroughbred Racing Association gave Castle Forbes the honor.

At 3, Tosmah won the Colonial Handicap, Miss Woodford Stakes, Liberty Bell Handicap, Arlington Handicap, Arlington Matron Handicap, Maskette Handicap, Beldame Stakes, Quaker City Handicap, and Jersey Belle Handicap to be named Champion 3-Year-Old Filly. Additionally, Tosmah was recognized as Champion Female Handicap Horse by Daily Racing Form. She finished either first or second in 13 of her 14 starts that year and earned $305,283.

In 1965, Tosmah repeated in the Maskette, defeating Affectionately at even weights by a nose. She won her second Colonial Handicap in 1966 and defeated 1965 Kentucky Derby winner Lucky Debonair, among others, in the John B. Campbell Handicap. Tosmah was retired at the end of the 1966 season with a career record of 23-6-2 from 39 starts and earnings of $612,588.

Tosmah gave birth to only four foals, including the stakes winner La Guidecca. Tosmah died in 1992 at the age of 31 and was buried at Briardale Farm in New Jersey.
