Biography
A nine-time Grade 1 winner and the Eclipse Award winner for Champion Female Turf Horse in 1992 and 1993, Flawlessly won three consecutive editions of both the Matriarch Stakes and Ramona Handicap during her illustrious career, as well as back-to-back runnings of the Beverly Hills Handicap.
Bred and owned by Harbor View Farm, Flawlessly was a bay daughter of Affirmed out of the Nijinsky II mare La Confidence. Trained as a 2-year-old by Rick Dutrow, Sr., Flawlessly won the Gardenia Stakes at the Meadowlands and the Tempted Stakes at Aqueduct as a juvenile before being sent to California to be trained by Hall of Famer Charlie Whittingham.
As a 3-year-old, Flawlessly won five stakes races, including her first Grade 1, the Matriarch. She won the Eclipse Award for Champion Grass Mare in 1992 thanks to Grade 1 wins in the Beverly Hills Handicap, Ramona Handicap, and the aforementioned Matriarch.
In 1993, Flawlessly was again named Champion Turf Female. She posted Grade 1 victories in the Beverly Hills Handicap, Ramona Handicap, Beverly D. Stakes, and her third consecutive score in the Matron. The following year, as a 6-year-old, Flawlessly won her third straight Ramona Handicap and was retired after finishing second in the Beverly D. with a career record of 16-4-3 from 28 starts and earnings of $2,572,536. Fifteen of her wins were in stakes races, including 11 graded wins.
