National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame announces fall events

Capturing and Preserving Greatness: A Life’s Passion (The Photography and Historic Collections of Barbara D Livingston, presented by Daily Racing Form) Curator’s Tour, Wednesday, Sept. 23, 5:30 p.m.
Join this behind-the-scenes look at the exhibit Capturing and Preserving Greatness: A Life’s Passion (The Photography and Historic Collections of Barbara D Livingston, presented by Daily Racing Form) with co-curator, iconic horse racing photographer, and six-time Eclipse Award winner Barbara Livingston. This exhibit celebrates Livingston’s incredible photography career and her passion for preserving historic negative collections. This tour takes place in the Museum’s McBean Gallery.

Munnings exhibition extended through Oct. 4
The Museum’s current exhibition A Discerning Eye: The Art of Sir Alfred Munnings (Selections from a Private Collection) will be extended through Oct. 4. The exhibition was originally scheduled to close on Sept. 13.
On display in the Museum’s von Stade Gallery, A Discerning Eye is guest curated by Teresa Longyear and features a remarkable collection of 29 works by Munnings that explore a variety of subjects and demonstrates his versatility and mastery of the dynamic equine and human connection.
Sir Alfred J. Munnings (1878–1959) studied, rode, bred, and lived with horses, instilling him with an extraordinary perception of the equine form and spirit. His work was widely admired during his time, and he was sought after by royalty and wealthy horse owners for commissions. Portraits of thoroughbreds and animated, vivid racing scenes established Munnings as a master of British Sporting Art. Munnings’ peers acknowledged his artistic talent by electing him President of the Royal Academy in 1944.
“In the minds and hearts of the people” American Revolution and Independence lecture with Garrett Cloer, Wednesday, Oct. 7, 5:30 p.m.
Each July 4, Americans gather to celebrate the birthday of the United States. But how did a group of colonies who previously had little interaction, and even less in common, come together to successfully separate from the most powerful empire in the world? Garrett Cloer, Program Manager for Interpretation and Visitor Experience at Saratoga National Historical Park, joins us to discuss the creation of the United States.

Equine Eyes Presentation and Demonstration, Saturday, Oct. 17, 11 a.m.
Join us for a presentation and demonstration of Equine Eyes led by Museum Educator Eric Ross. Equine Eyes is a hands-on research-driven interactive, playful experience designed to simulate how horses perceive the world. Equine Eyes was developed over the course of nine years by Dr. Alan Hook of Ulster University and aims to foster empathy, care, safety awareness, and interspecies connection.
Utilizing a specially developed headset with mounted cameras, Equine Eyes provides visitors with an immersive visual and sensory perspective of equine vision. This technology highlights key differences in the field of view and color spectrum compared to human vision, offering a deeper understanding of how horses navigate their environment, leading to discussion about how horses experience the world.
Cost: The event is free with paid admission to the Museum.
The Museum acknowledges the generous support of the Thoroughbred Education Research Foundation (TERF), which provided essential funding for the Equine Eyes experience.
Saratoga Race Course Exclusive Autumn Tour, Saturday, Oct. 24, 10 a.m.
Join us for an exclusive autumn tour of Saratoga Race Course. Guests will enjoy a unique 60-minute guided tour that will offer a rare opportunity to explore the historic main track amidst the fall foliage. Guests will meet in the Museum lobby and walk with their guide to the Saratoga Race Course.
We are pleased to offer this tour at no cost to our guests, thanks to the support of the New York Thoroughbred Breeding and Development Fund.

Breeders’ Cup Watch Party, Saturday, Oct. 31, 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Join us for our 2nd Annual Breeders’ Cup Watch Party on Halloween from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. You can expect Breeders’ Cup Trivia, a 50/50 raffle, and a live viewing of the 2026 Breeders’ Cup from Keeneland Race Course. A food truck from Ted’s Fish Fry will be on site, and wine and beer will be available for purchase. Costumes are encouraged but not required for this event.

Oklahoma Training Track Tours, ongoing through October
Find out why this beautiful and historic site, located across the street from Saratoga Race Course, is a favorite base for the nation’s leading trainers. Our behind-the-scenes tours, offered in cooperation with the New York Racing Association, are available through October. This walking tour covers approximately 1.5 miles and lasts for 90 minutes. Sturdy walking shoes are suggested!
Note: Each participant will receive a complimentary Museum admission pass following the conclusion of the tour.
Tour participants must be at least 10 years old. No children in backpacks or strollers, no umbrellas.
The tour begins promptly at 9 a.m. You will meet your tour guide and check in at the front desk in the Museum lobby. Reservations are required, and spaces are limited! Please make sure you leave a phone number where you can be reached from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. You will be contacted only if the tour is cancelled because of weather.
